WATCH: Garage burns down in Denton

DENTON, Neb. (KLKN) — A garage erupted in flames early Thursday morning in rural Lancaster County.

It happened about 12:30 a.m. in Denton near Southwest 91st Street and West Denton Road.

The fire could be seen from miles away, and witnesses reported hearing explosions.

Eight units from multiple rural fire departments responded.

Firefighters got the flames under control in about a half-hour.

The blaze began accidentally when a man was working on his 2001 Ford Mustang, according to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.

The newly installed engine caught fire, and he couldn’t put it out, Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said.

The fire caused $112,000 in damage, destroying the garage.

No one was injured, according to authorities, and the fire did not damage the home.
