Kickoff to summer, heating up again

With more moisture returning and cooler temperatures, some of that moisture has condensed in the form of fog early Thursday. For some spots, expect some patchy fog for the morning commute especially toward Aurora and Beatrice.

Morning Planner

So it certainly doesn’t look like summer to start, but the official kickoff to summer with the solstice is today (June 20)! We should see more sun toward the late afternoon and evening hours Thursday before the sun sets after 9PM.

Summer Begins

With the sun poking out later and a warm front again slowly working its way north, temperatures heat up as we dial up this first day of summer. The humidity also sneaks back in today.

Average highs at this point of the year are in the upper 80s, and we’ll be right about there today.

Overall, the pattern we’re in will not be favorable for widespread storms in eastern Nebraska. We’ll be largely dry and quiet for the duration of the day, but western Nebraska could see stronger storms early in the afternoon move in from the west.

A Slight (Level 2 of 5) risk highlights the Panhandle with the primary concerns being damaging wind and large hail.

Spc Thu

Storms will strengthen as they move into the Sandhills through the evening, with north-central Nebraska likely to see these storms move in by Thursday night. This activity should moving out toward South Dakota just after midnight.

Jessica Stormcast

Storm chances over the next few days are not posing optimistic chances for more precipitation. Most of us will be fairly dry through the weekend.
