Omaha woman accused of leaving child in vehicle for ‘extended period of time’

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Omaha Police Department made an arrest Thursday in the death of a 5-year-old boy.

Police said 40-year-old Juanita Pinon, the boy’s foster mother, was charged on suspicion of child abuse by neglect resulting in death.

Around 5 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to 93rd and Binney streets on a report of an unresponsive child.

The boy was found inside the vehicle and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said it appears the child was left unattended in the vehicle for “an extended period of time.”

An investigation is ongoing.
