Cornhusker State Games begin; over 7,500 athletes participating
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The 40th Cornhusker State Games kicked off Thursday night.
The opening ceremony was held Thursday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
Powerhouse siblings and Husker athletes Rebekah and Josiah Allick lit the cauldron to mark the start of the 2024 games.
There will be 73 different sporting events taking place over the next two weekends; 45 of those events will be held this weekend.
Some of the more popular events include pickleball, bowling and hockey. Here’s a full list of the events.
Over 7,500 athletes have registered to compete, and some sports are still accepting registrations.
Those that place 1st through 3rd in their sports will receive a medal, and all competitors will get a shirt, along with some other accessories.
Admission to the games is $5 for adults, $2 for students ages 6 to 18, and free for kids 5 and under.
