LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Warm Cookie hosted a “Cans for Cookies” event this weekend. The community could donate perishable items, and in return receive a free, chocolate chip cookie.

“We decided to do Cans for Cookies a week before Thanksgiving,  and try to get some food around for people who need it so they can have a better holiday,” owner Sharice Kucera said.

Nearly 1,000 cans and boxes of food were collected. The donations will go to FoodNet, a group made up of volunteers and non-profits who collect food for people and families in need.

Kucera said she’s thankful for the community’s outpouring support during the pandemic. As a local business owner, she appreciates Lincoln residents doing everything to keep her business alive.

“I’ve seen it all over social media. People are trying to support local, make sure they build up their small, locally owned businesses, keeping the fire alive during a hard year. We’re just grateful to our community.”

The Warm Cookie offers curbside and delivery, for more information you can visit its website.
