Moving back in: Athletes do heavy lifting as UNL students return
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Classes may not start until next week, but the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus is buzzing with excitement as students return.
Moving isn’t anyone’s favorite process, but UNL is making things easier by providing athletes to help students move in free of charge.
A company called University and Student Services has brought student-athletes from all over the nation to carry furniture and boxes for UNL students.
“UNL’s been fantastic, I have to say,” said Stacey Olson, a parent of a new student. “The whole move-in process has been great. The organization’s been fantastic, taking everything up to the room. Odds and ends, we have to carry the fragile stuff, but this whole thing has just been amazing.”
In return, the student-athletes raise money for their athletic programs back home — around $30,000 to $40,000 per team.
Over 150 of these movers are stationed in the parking lots of Schramm, Selleck and Harper dormitories until noon Tuesday.
