Officer fatally shot man while serving search warrant at Omaha home, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Omaha Police Department is investigating after an officer fatally shot a man while serving a search warrant Wednesday.

Officers and federal authorities were serving a search warrant for narcotics and firearms at a home near North 78th Street and Sorenson Parkway.

Police said the SWAT team was called in to help due to the suspect’s “criminal history.”

Around 7 a.m., the SWAT team served the warrant and encountered the suspect, a 37-year-old man who has not been identified.

This is when an Omaha Police officer fired his gun, striking the man.  It is unknown what led up to the shooting.

Officers started CPR on the man, and medics took him to a hospital, where he later died.

Police said the agency is investigating the shooting, and more information will be available later on.
