Kickoff to football in the forecast; delightful drop in temperatures

Thunderstorms riding along a cold front from Thursday into early Friday morning managed to drop almost a half an inch of rain for most around I-80 and areas south. Locally higher amounts added up to over an inch toward Hebron and Pawnee County.

That cold front has brought us cooler air just in time for the start of football: both high school and college. For Channel 8’s Game of the Week, Lincoln Christian will face off against Lincoln Lutheran at Pius X, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday night.

High School Football Game Of The Week

Temperatures will fall to the upper 70s around kickoff under mostly clear skies for a pleasant night. As the sun sets just after 8 p.m., count on temperatures cooling to the upper 60s by the end of these games.

As for college ball, the Huskers will kickoff against the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday in their first matchup of the season.

Tailgating weather in the morning will be on the cooler side as overnight lows fall to the middle 50s. That’ll bring about the feeling of football season early on in the day, before a lot of sun will quickly lead to temperatures warming into the middle and upper 80s by the start of the game.

As for the rest of Labor Day weekend, another cold front will support even cooler air for Sunday, highs barely making it back to 80 degrees under sunny conditions. Labor Day itself is looking more like fall as well, with highs in the upper 70s.
