LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln Public Schools announced Thursday that the varsity football game between Standing Bear and Waverly will no longer happen.

Standing Bear forfeited Friday’s game due to a large number of players out with an upper respiratory illness, the Athletics and Activities Department said.

“This difficult decision has been made out of an abundance of caution in an effort to help keep everyone well and safe,” LPS Athletic Director JJ Toczek said. “We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we navigate this unique situation.”
