‘Why does this keep happening?’ Lincoln woman’s car broken into twice in six months

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln woman now has to fix major damage to her car again after a second break-in this year.

Marissa Maeweathers, who lives in Woods Park, discovered that the back windshield of her car was smashed when she was loading up her kids on Wednesday.

“I’m just like, ‘Why does this keep happening to me? I really don’t understand,'” Maeweathers said.

There was a similar scene in May, when Lincoln Police found her Kia blocks away with severe damage.

“The whole front assembly was ripped out of it,” she said.

Maeweathers said this car is a lifeline for her and her four kids, whom she takes to school and multiple appointments.

“I have so many appointments,” Maeweathers said. “I’m a stay-at-home mom, and these kids are my world. And, like, I just I don’t understand why anybody would do this at all.”

Now with the damage to the windshield, she is finding it hard to get her family of six from point A to point B.

“It’s just really hard,” Maeweathers said.

And she said although there was nothing taken from the car, she’s still frustrated.

“I don’t do anything to anybody,” she said. “I take care of my kids, I mind my business and just go about my day. It just kind of hurts.”

The Maeweathers are looking for any surveillance footage from the area that may show who smashed the window.
