LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – An apartment fire in south Lincoln turned fatal after one resident was found dead.

Lincoln Fire and Rescue (LFR) arrived at Salt View Apartments, 5500 Salt Valley View, around 2:30 a.m.

After witnessing smoke seeping out of a first-floor apartment, all residents were immediately evacuated from the building.

Inside the building, the hallways were filled with smoke and the high pitched ringing of smoke alarms.

According to LFR, the cause of the fire was a burnt pot of grease left on a hot stove in an apartment’s kitchen.

Unfortunately, emergency crews also discovered the lone resident of that apartment, a 37-year-old male, was deceased. No official cause of death has been reported.

No other injuries have been reported.

The Lincoln Police Department and Fire Investigator Hasenjaeger will now be handling the apartment fire investigation.

This is a developing story and we will provide you with more updates as they become available.
