LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A boy was killed Friday morning in a crash in rural Fillmore County, the sheriff’s office says.

The two-vehicle crash happened around 7:45 a.m. near County Road 24 and Highway 6, just east of Exeter.

The sheriff’s office said a Mazda MX-5, driven by a boy from Friend, crossed the center line and hit a Ford Ranger.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver of the Ford, an 83-year-old woman, was taken to a hospital in Friend.

Investigators suspect the boy was using an “electronic device” at the time of the crash, according to the sheriff’s office.

Highway 6 was closed for over two hours, and the Nebraska State Patrol assisted in the investigation.
