‘A little bit of a shocker’: Neighbors surprised after shots fired in central Lincoln
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Neighbors said Monday that they were taken aback by a shooting in central Lincoln.
Officers responded to reports of gunshots at a home near 25th and Dudley streets just before 10 p.m. Saturday, according to the Lincoln Police Department.
“They discovered that a nearby residence had been struck three times,” Erika Thomas said. “A brick in front of the house, a mailbox and then the front door and interior wall were all struck by bullets.”
Thomas said police found a shell casing in the street. Witnesses said they saw a 2000s Chrysler Pacifica speeding off.
Neighbors said the area is normally quiet and peaceful.
A man who lives behind the house that was struck, Tanner Bell, said he was surprised to see an officer at his doorstep when he got home from work Saturday.
LPD asked him for camera footage, but his Ring doorbell wasn’t working.
Another neighbor, Michelle Schrader, said she never expected this to happen in the neighborhood.
Her partner told her there were many police cars down the street right after shots were fired.
“It was quite concerning,” she said. “It was a little bit of a shocker when she said there’s a bunch of police officers down there.”
She said there hasn’t been much crime in the area since a nearby shooting in 2016.
“They say that was a drive-by shooting back over here in the alley area,” she said.
Schrader said most people in the area know each other, so it’s normally calm.
“It’s really, really quiet. There’s a lot of children playing outside a lot. We have our grandkids out here all the time,” she said. “So I’d say it’s pretty safe over here.”
She doesn’t think she and her other neighbors should be concerned, and she just wants police to find who did it.
Police don’t have any suspects.
