Lincoln woman expresses concerns over illegal parking near elementary school
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln woman expressed her concerns on Monday regarding numerous cars that have been parking illegally in a school zone.
She said cars parking illegally around Maxey Elementary during school pickup is obstructing the view of those using the crosswalks after school.
The woman, who remained anonymous, said her concern has grown over the 15 years she has lived next to the school, but this year is the worst it’s been.
“When you live near a school, regardless of what type of school it is, there’s going to be certain times of the day where its a little more hectic, but I assume hectic also means safe,” the woman said.
She said parents parking illegally during school pickup creates a blind spot for drivers turning onto 75th Street, preventing them from seeing the busy crosswalk.
“As a parent and as a person of the community, it concerns me for the safety of even those I don’t know, not even my own family.”
The Lincoln Police Department said there has only been one formal complaint about parking near the crosswalk 0utside of the school.
LPD also said school safety traffic enforcement projects are based in areas with high traffic concerns and community complaints.
The public can report parking concerns by calling the LPD non-emergency line at 402-441-6000.
