India gives Nebraska Gandhi bust for display in Capitol

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A bust of Mahatma Gandhi is now on permanent display in the Nebraska State Capitol.

Gov. Jim Pillen unveiled the bust on Friday.

It is a gift from the Indian Consulate in Seattle, a new office whose jurisdiction includes Nebraska.

The bust is in the Governor’s Hearing Room of the Capitol.

Pillen also signed a proclamation declaring Friday to be “A Day of Remembrance for Mahatma Gandhi” in Nebraska.

Lt. Gov. Joe Kelly, former Sen. Ben Nelson, former Husker coach Tom Osborne and Consul General Prakash Gupta.
