‘It’s a special team’: Husker artist brings volleyball team’s most iconic moments to life

ELKHORN, Neb. (KLKN) – While the Nebraska volleyball team is searching for its sixth national title, one Husker fan is supporting her favorite team in a unique way.

Ashley Spitsnogle has been a licensed Husker artist and has been painting Nebraska’s most iconic moments for the last seven years.

She said Thursday that it’s a special time for Nebraska athletics, especially with the volleyball team on the brink of a national championship.

“The energy, like, I get goosebumps even thinking about it,” Spitsnogle said. “Thinking about watching them play tonight, watching them play in the last game, there is definitely something special, it’s a special team.”

Many of Spitsnogle’s pieces mimic the happiness that the Nebraska volleyball team is spreading throughout the state.

“They put you in a good mood,” she said. “You can not be having the best day, and then you watch them and the energy between all the girls and between the coaches, you can tell they play for one another, which is inspiring even outside of sports.”

With the excitement around the Huskers at a fever pitch, the Elkhorn native feels even more inspired to highlight the team in her artwork.

“To be able to add to the excitement through my art is something that I feel very lucky and honored to be able do,” she said. “How hard they work to get to where they’re at and how good they are and how they play makes me want to work harder and what I do and where my talents lie.”
