Lincoln man arrested after high-speed chase, scuffle in Otoe County

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Otoe County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Lincoln man Saturday night after a high-speed chase ended in a scuffle.

At 9 p.m., a deputy was trying to pull over a vehicle on Highway 2 east of Unadilla that was driving 114 mph in a 70 mph zone, according to the sheriff’s office.

The vehicle and the deputy were driving east, but the sheriff’s office said the car ended up fleeing into the westbound lanes, still driving east.

Another Otoe County deputy was able to use a tire spike system to disable the vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.

Officials said the driver then jumped out of his sunroof and charged at deputies. A deputy shocked him with a Taser and took him into custody.

The man was identified as 48-year-old Souvanh Sonthana.

He was medically cleared at St. Mary’s Hospital in Nebraska City and then lodged in the Otoe County Jail on several felony charges.
