The Big LePlowski, Sleetwood Mac among winners of Lincoln snowplow naming contest

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Department announced the Name That Snowplow contest winners on Monday.

Decals with the winning names will be placed on the snowplows, and people should expect to see them in service by spring 2025.

One of the winners, Ctrl Salt Delete, was submitted by Channel 8 team member Mark Fischer.

The eight winners:

  • The Big LePlowski – submitted by Michael Maly, 259 votes
  • Sleetwood Mac – submitted by Matthew Monnich, 224 votes
  • Ctrl Salt Delete – submitted by Mark Fischer, 220 votes
  • Betty Whiteout – submitted by Nikki Mandeville, 191 votes
  • Buenos Snowches – submitted by Leigh Ann Palmer, 152 votes
  • Han Snowlo – submitted by Justin Alger, 151 votes
  • Plowabunga – submitted by Eric Bettger, 151 votes
  • Sled Zeppelin – submitted by Norbert Pieper, 150 votes

“We are thrilled to unveil the eight winning names from this year’s Name That Snowplow contest,” LTU Director Liz Elliott said in a press release. “The creativity and enthusiasm behind each submission showcases the unique character of our community. It is exciting to see the community come together in such a fun and meaningful way.”

LTU’s Operations and Maintenance team whittled down a list of 467 snowplow names to 25 finalists.  Over 500 people voted in the contest.

“The response to the Name That Snowplow contest has been incredible, and we are thankful for the continued enthusiasm from the community,” said Tim Byrne, the department’s maintenance operations and fleet services manager. “This contest provides a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the important work of our snowfighters, while also offering a unique way to bring our city together. We cannot wait to see these names on our snowplows.”
