Drug deal backfires: Lincoln man sentenced for selling stolen gun

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln man was sentenced Thursday after selling a stolen handgun.
Jovan Travis, 38, got seven years in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was also given a two-year term of supervised release.
In January 2023, an Omaha Police officer was contacted by a confidential informant about a drug deal.
The officer had the informant arrange a controlled deal with Travis. They met up on the same day.
At the time of the deal, Travis said he didn’t have the pills yet and instead offered the informant a handgun for $300.
The informant bought the gun, and after investigation, the gun was found to be reported stolen out of Illinois.
Travis was previously convicted of multiple felonies, including robbery.
