LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A check in the sum of nearly $250,000 was presented to the Food Bank of Lincoln on Tuesday afternoon.

Jason Pauling, the food bank’s director of corporate partnerships, said the donation from Hy-Vee would be enough to provide about 500,000 meals.

“It’s a huge deal,” he said.

For the last 20 months, Hy-Vee has been asking Lincoln shoppers to round up on purchases, with every cent going to the food bank.

This was part of Hy-Vee’s 100 million Meals Challenge, an effort to combat rising hunger across America.

Hy-Vee worked food manufacturers and suppliers to deliver 102 million meals across the Midwest during this campaign.

The food bank provides 10 million meals a year to 16 counties in southeast Nebraska and said it’s always looking for volunteers.
