No. 19 Nebraska falls to No. 24 Mississippi State to close NFCA Leadoff Classic

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The No. 19-ranked Nebraska softball team lost its second-straight game on Sunday, falling 3-0 to No. 24 Mississippi State at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Florida.
Sierra Sacco hit a two-out, three-run double in the bottom of the second inning to give the Bulldogs the only runs of the game.
Kylee Magee (1-1) took the loss for the Huskers, pitching 2.0 innings and allowing three runs on four hits. Magee also struck out three batters.
Raelin Chaffin (4-0) was the winning pitcher for the Bulldogs, pitching all seven innings and racking up six strikeouts.
As a team, the Huskers totaled five hits, with Emmerson Cope and Olivia DiNardo leading the charge with two-a-piece.
Sacco led the Bulldogs with three hits and three RBIs.
Nebraska finished the NFCA Leadoff Classic with a 3-2 record, including a 7-1 win over No. 6 Tennessee.
Over the course of the weekend, Ava Kuszak (.467) and DiNardo (.455) totaled the highest batting averages on the team. Kuszak also had the most hits with seven.
The Huskers will head to Las Cruces, New Mexico, to play in the Troy Cox Classic. First pitch for their opening matchup will be Friday at 10 a.m. against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
