Explosion at Broken Bow power plant caused ‘city-wide’ outage

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – An early Thursday morning explosion at a power plant in Broken Bow caused a “city-wide” outage, officials say.

At around 6:20 a.m., emergency crews from several agencies responded to an explosion at the Municipal Power Plant.

In a press release, the city said the explosion caused a fire at the power plant.

Two city employees suffered minor injuries and were taken to the Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center “out of an abundance of caution.”

The explosion left much of the city without power.  The city’s electric department has since rerouted power to restore service to “most areas.”

But some areas might still be without power as crews continue their work, the city said.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
