Athlete of the Week: Lincoln Christian’s Kena Ailes

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Kena Ailes is the latest Channel 8 Athlete of the week.
She’s leading the Lincoln Christian Crusaders in her senior season with a perfect 24-0 record, after winning the Class C1-1 Subdistrict championship over Syracuse this past Thursday night.
Ailes carved out a double-double with a team high 23 points, and 10 rebounds.
“We shared the ball really good we pushed it down the court and got free layups and so that was really good for our team,” said Ailes.
In her career, she’s No. 1 all time in rebounds at Lincoln Christian with 933, and is second in scoring as well for the Crusader program.
“Everyone I have played with has been so fun they have all helped me be a better teammate and they are my best friends,” said Ailes. “Its been so fun to play with all of them.”
The now senior has been a staple for Lincoln Christian the past four year, leaving a legacy on the Crusader program.
“She’s been special,” said Lincoln Christian Head Coach Scott Klein. “I could probably count on one hand how many times she didn’t score in double figures. She’s just a special kid. I’ve been blessed to be a part of her journey for four years.”
It’s been 393 days since Lincoln Christian’s last loss, winning the state championship in 2024.
Right now, they’re on track to go back-to-back.
“Ever since we won the state championship last year, that wasn’t enough,” said Coach Klein. “We’ve still got goals to accomplish.”
If they do repeat, this season would be perfect. Kena Ailes has her eyes set on just that.
“Obviously to win another state championship, were hoping to make history and go back-to-back that’s our ultimate goal.”
Before the Crusaders can get back to the state tournament, they’ll have to get past Malcolm for the C1-1 District Final Friday night Feb 28.
