As central Nebraska crews tamp down one wildfire, another pops up

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Another wildfire sparked in central Nebraska on Tuesday night, even as crews made progress on other fires.

The East Table Road Fire started about 3 miles northeast of Merna, according to Custer County Emergency Manager Mark Rempe.

It quickly spread south through canyons, Rempe said in a press release, and has burned about 1.5 miles.

The fire prompted an urgent warning from the Custer County Sheriff’s Office.

“All people that are north of 802 Rd and Cramer Canyon Rd towards Merna need to get away from the fire!” the sheriff’s office said on Facebook.

Rempe said several people in the area have been told to prepare to evacuate, but no evacuations are in place.
