Two killed in crash on I-80 near Grand Island amid winter storm
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Two people were killed Tuesday in a crash near Grand Island during a winter storm.
The crash happened around 4 p.m. on westbound Interstate 80 near mile marker 310, just south of Grand Island.
The Nebraska State Patrol said a vehicle lost control, crossed the median and hit an eastbound semi.
The occupants of the vehicle — 25-year-old Emelin Ortega Rodas and 62-year-old Daniel Ortega Marroquin — were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the semi was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
The patrol said severe winter weather was a factor in the crash. An investigation is ongoing.
Troopers responded to 28 crashes and helped over 300 travelers since the storm started on Tuesday.
