Winter storm caused ‘havoc’ on northeast Nebraska roads, sheriff’s office says

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A winter storm caused “havoc” Friday morning on roads in northeast Nebraska, the sheriff’s office says.

Just before 7 a.m., a semi jackknifed on Highway 275, just east of Norfolk.

The semi also leaked diesel fuel, leading a hazmat team from Norfolk Fire to respond to the scene.  The highway was reopened around 9 a.m.

At around the same time, “numerous” vehicles were reported to have slid off county highways due to poor road conditions, the sheriff’s office said.

In one crash around 8 a.m., a vehicle went into a ditch and rolled over near Stanton.

The driver and her daughter were not seriously injured, according to the sheriff’s office.

The vehicle is considered a total loss.
