Lincoln businesses braving the blizzard: Rosie’s opens late to help staff and regulars

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — With a fierce blizzard ripping through Lincoln on Wednesday, a lot of businesses and restaurants closed up shop.

But one bar in Lincoln opened its doors once the weather cleared up a bit.

Rosie’s Sports Bar and Grill near 14th Street and Nebraska Parkway opened at 4 p.m., five hours later than normal.

It’s one of very few places that opened on the snowy day, and some regulars were happy to hear that.

“I get a little bit of cabin fever,” Marcia Merrill said. “The big dance is coming on, so I wanted to sit down with my friends and get out a little bit.”

According to the owner of Rosie’s, a full day with no hours hurts the staff.

Plus, with some people without power, they wanted to help by serving a hot meal.

Rosie’s regulars said that community feeling is what it’s all about.

“It kind of helps you realize the atmosphere that’s here and what goes on here,” said Jerame Wiles.

It’s what keeps them coming back.

“I think Rosie’s is very concerned about their customers’ safety, so that’s important,” Merrill said. “They want to be a communal place where people can get together.”

Thursday, now that the storm has passed, Lincoln businesses will be back open to take advantage of the March Madness rush.
