LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln man who ran over a woman during a confrontation with police in 2023 was sentenced to prison on Friday.

Garrett Hanika was sentenced to 40 to 55 years in prison for second-degree assault, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and possession of meth.

That sentence could be cut in half for good behavior with Nebraska’s good time law.

Hanika entered a plea deal, dropping four felony counts, before he was convicted of those crimes on Jan. 31.

On Nov. 21, 2023, police approached Hanika, who was in a Jeep at the Microtel near 27th Street and Cornhusker Highway.

He had a federal warrant for his arrest, according to the Lincoln Police Department.

Hanika put the Jeep in reverse and crashed into Officer Nicholas Vest’s cruiser, police said.
