Fire destroys house east of Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A house east of Lincoln was destroyed in fire on Saturday.

The fire was reported about 10 a.m. near 134th and O streets.

Firefighters saw flames coming through the roof when they arrived, according to the Southeast Fire & Rescue Department.

Three other departments – Eagle Fire & Rescue, Waverly Fire/Rescue and Bennet Fire and Rescue – were called in to help.

Crews were on scene for about five hours, Southeast Fire & Rescue said.

The residents were not home when the fire started, according to the department, but their pets died.

Authorities said the home is a total loss, with damage estimated at $400,000.

The flames left a large hole in the roof over the main part of the house, and the roof of the garage appeared to be gone entirely.

The state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze.
