LPD: Three teenagers arrested after trying to rob Lincoln High student

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Three teenagers were arrested Thursday after a chase near downtown Lincoln.
Around 3:15 p.m., a school resource officer was alerted by staff to a fight outside Lincoln High School between a student and three teenagers who do not attend the school.
Two 16-year-olds and a 15-year-old were trying to steal the student’s backpack, according to the Lincoln Police Department.
A staff member from the school was able to wrestle the backpack away from the teens, LPD said.
According to a witness, one of the teenagers appeared to have a handgun during the fight.
When the school resource officer arrived, they saw the teenagers running away from the scene.
The SRO started chasing the teens, and a lengthy foot pursuit began, according to LPD.
All three teenagers were caught by the SRO and responding officers near 19th and G streets.
Officers were able to find the handgun that was discarded during the chase, but it was found to be a BB gun that looked like a real firearm.
The teenagers were taken to the Lancaster County Youth Services Center on suspicion of attempted robbery, a class 2A felony.
According to LPD, the victim suffered minor injuries.
