Man tries to steal vehicle with child inside in Grand Island, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A man was arrested Thursday after police say he tried to steal a car with a child inside.
Khamis Yaya was arrested on suspicion of attempted theft of a motor vehicle and obstruction of a police officer.
Just before 5:30 a.m., officers with the Grand Island Police Department were sent to the area of Webb Road and North Front Street.
The victim, a 32-year-old female, said Yaya was trying to take her vehicle while her child was in the back seat.
When officers tried to detain Yaya, he became “physically uncooperative” and had to be forced into handcuffs, police said.
According to police, Yaya had to be forced into the back of a patrol car, and he was taken to the Hall County Jail.
