Severe weather across Nebraska Monday

Monday, a SLIGHT risk for severe weather is in place for parts of west central Nebraska. A MARGINAL risk for surrounding areas. Main concern look to be heavy rain, winds and hail.

An isolated tornado or 2 is possible as the storms begin to develop in the early evening hours.

Large hail could occur early as storms develop and are more isolated, but storms will quickly grow upscale into a line and become widespread as they move southeast through the evening.

Damaging winds could become a concern along and south of I-80, especially early Monday evening, as the line of storms surges southeastward.

Thunderstorms will rapidly develop along a cold front from around the O’Neill to North Platte area by mid to late afternoon. Other scattered storms are expected behind the front across the Sandhills. This line of storms and showers will move east overnight, turning into a wind event. Storms possible in parts of SE Nebraska early Tuesday morning.

Mondays storm system looks to bring some decent rainfall to parts of central Nebraska. A SLIGHT risk and a MARGINAL risk for excessive rainfall is in effect through Monday night. Parts of the sandhills region could see 1.00″- 3.00″+ of rainfall through Monday night. A slight risk for excessive rainfall means that scattered flash flooding is possible. Most vulnerable are urban areas, roads, small streams and washes.

Potential rainfall totals through Tuesday range from 0.50″- 1.50″+ for parts of west central Nebraska.

Tonight, expect light south winds and temperatures dipping into the 50s and 60s across the area.

Monday, temperatures will be quite hot and well above average. Most of us in the upper 80s and lower 90s. Winds will be gusting to around 30 mph by the afternoon.

A hot and windy Monday. A cold front moves through Monday night into Tuesday morning, bringing severe weather out west and rain showers east. Scattered and isolated rain and storms possible all through the week.
