Hot, humid before late June storms across Nebraska
The heat and humidity over the weekend extend into early this week. Late storms will threaten some severe weather across Nebraska Monday night into Tuesday morning.
Monday will feel much the same with a southerly breeze that tries to help a little.
Even more oppressive heat and humidity will be in store by the end of this week and the summer solstice.
Pretty much all of us in southeast Nebraska will see highs in the lower 90s again by Monday afternoon.
There will still be enough humidity to make it feel like the middle and even upper 90s – hot and humid if outside for long!
By Monday evening, a cold front oriented across northern Nebraska will be the reason storms fire up and move south. More storms will come to meet that line from the west and combine over central and southeast Nebraska through Tuesday morning.
Severe weather is likely especially for those in western and central Nebraska, as they are a part of an Enhanced (Level 3 of 5) risk. The rest of the state including Lincoln is in the Slight (Level 2 of 5) risk for possible scattered severe storms.
- Enhanced risk (orange below): numerous severe storms possible
- Slight risk (yellow below): scattered severe storms possible
This risk has been updated since our morning show. The Enhanced risk is driven by higher confidence in a damaging wind threat from Alliance, Nebraska, east toward Albion and St. Paul in central Nebraska.
There will be an isolated tornado threat for storms first firing up closer to the South Dakota border and out through the Panhandle. Especially what storms may be first forming up in north-central and northeast Nebraska by the late afternoon and early evening.
Those same early storms will also have a large hail threat with them, too. Hail could be up to 2″ in diameter if not larger through northern Nebraska up toward South Dakota.
More storms are expected late across southeast Nebraska Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, with a hail and wind threat possible with those storms as well.
By this upcoming Friday and Saturday, we’ll be a lot hotter with possible temperatures feeling as hot as the lower 100s.
