Two LPS students killed in north Lincoln crash, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A pair of siblings who attended Lincoln North Star were killed Monday in a crash in north Lincoln.

In an update Tuesday, the Lincoln Police Department identified the victims as an 18-year-old Karwan Breem and 15-year-old Karolin Breem.

In a letter to families at North Star, Principal Megan Kroll said the district’s crisis team was made available to help any students during this time.

The crash happened just before 1:30 p.m. Monday near Antelope Valley Parkway and Virginia Street.

Police said a Cadillac ATS, driven by Karwan Breem, was heading north when it “accelerated rapidly” to pass two vehicles.

The vehicle hydroplaned on the wet road and drove up onto the curb.

It spun and slid across the southbound lane, crashing into a Nissan Frontier, according to LPD.

Karwan Breem was pronounced dead at the scene.  His sister, the passenger in the Cadillac, was taken to a hospital, where she died from her injuries.

The driver of the Nissan was hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening.

An investigation is ongoing.  Anyone with information is asked to call police at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
