LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Former State Sen. Brett Lindstrom is entering his name into the race for Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District.

In an update on his website Monday, Lindstrom announced his campaign for the seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The role is currently occupied by Rep. Don Bacon, who said last week that he would not seek reelection in 2026.

“I’m running for Congress because I believe Nebraska needs a leader who will fight every day for our families, our values, and our future,” Lindstrom said in a press release. “I will be a voice for working people, veterans, and small businesses, and for the next generation who deserve to inherit a stronger, safer America.” Lindstrom’s campaign will focus on growing our economy, securing our border, and making District 2 the best place to raise a family.

Lindstrom has received endorsements from State Sens. Rita Sanders and Christy Armendariz, along with former State Sen. Tom Brewer.

“In Congress, I know Brett will be a fierce advocate who will work to improve access to healthcare, ensure mental health services, and protect the benefits our veterans have earned,” Brewer said in the release.

Another Republican candidate, Omaha City Council Vice President Brinker Harding, announced his campaign for the seat last week.

Four Democrats have already announced their campaigns for Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District: State Sen. John Cavanaugh, Mark Johnston, Denise Powell and Evangelos Argyrakis.
