Man arrested after stalking woman near downtown Lincoln, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A man was arrested Saturday after police say he was stalking a female near downtown Lincoln.

At 12 p.m., officers with the Lincoln Police Department were called to the area of 21st and P streets on the report of an open line to 911.

According to LPD, the dispatcher could hear a female in distress with a male, and was able to pinpoint her location.

When officers arrived, they found the 23-year-old female in a group gesturing for help.

Officers tried to talk to 41-year-old Matthew Hill, but he resisted and was arrested.

The female said she didn’t know Hill, but met him a day prior at a local business.

According to the victim, Hill approached her at the business and refused to leave her alone. LPD said she was able to lose Hill by running away from him when he entered the business.

On Monday, Hill again noticed the woman and refused to leave her alone. She tried to run away from him again, but Hill grabbed her arm, preventing her from leaving.

The woman was able to call 911 for help by pretending she was on the phone with someone else.

Hill was taken to the Lancaster County Jail on suspicion of first-degree false imprisonment, stalking, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance and false information to an officer.
