Gust front caused severe wind gusts through Lancaster County; cooler couple of days

We largely missed out on the significant damaging wind threat across the state over the past 24 hours. The strongest wind gust reported anywhere was in Douglas County toward Fort Calhoun at 68 mph.

It was hard to believe we didn’t have gusts above 70 mph through Lincoln last night as a leading gust front came through. It was LOUD.

Here’s a look at 24-hour rain totals as of this morning across the area. Some reported above 3″ in Hamilton and Fillmore counties.

After morning storms linger on a bit longer south of Lincoln, we’ll be mostly dry the rest of the day and only partly sunny. A northerly breeze and a cooler day for Tuesday.

Some out west won’t even warm to the 80s today!

There’s a small chance at a spot storm by the afternoon, but most will be dry through the day until chances again later Wednesday night.

The risk for severe weather has dropped off for southern Nebraska as the cold front sits a bit farther south today. The better probability for any severe weather today is actually toward Denver and Chicago.

We are stuck in this repeated pattern of only seeing storms by nightfall.

Storms look to redevelop near Lincoln mainly south of I-80 tonight into early Thursday, sagging to the south through the night.

The coolest day of the week comes tomorrow, with high temperatures only in the 70s here in Lincoln.
