LPD: Man fired shotgun at vehicle before burglary at downtown Lincoln pawn shop

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man fired a shotgun at a vehicle Wednesday before breaking into a pawn shop in downtown Lincoln, police say.

Around 7:30 a.m., officers responded to 13th and E streets on a report of a man, later identified as 25-year-old Shakye Patterson Edwards, armed with a shotgun.

Police said Edwards approached a man sitting in a vehicle and pulled out a shotgun from under a blanket.  He then fired the gun through the driver’s side window.

The victim, who was not injured by the gunfire, kicked at Edwards through the window, and he ran off, according to police.

Later that day, around 10:30 p.m., officers were sent to Moore Pawn near 16th and M streets on a report of a break-in.

When officers arrived, they found that a window and a display case had been broken.  A red electric guitar was stolen, LPD said.

The burglar also tried opening multiple handgun cases, but they were locked up.

Investigators found blood and fingerprints at the scene, along with an ID and credit card belonging to Edwards, police said.

On Thursday, an officer spotted Edwards walking on 17th Street and took him into custody.

He was seen wearing the same clothing in surveillance videos from both incidents, according to police.

Edwards was arrested on suspicion of several charges, including first-degree attempted assault and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.
