WATCH: City of Beatrice gives inside look at burned-up building before demolition

BEATRICE, Neb. (KLKN) — The City of Beatrice gave an update Friday on the abandoned manufacturing complex that caught fire months ago.

Community Development Director Chet McGrury did a walk-through of the Dempsters site near Highway 77 and Perkins Street before its demolition.

The building, which used to be a windmill factory, went up in flames on March 21.

It was caught on Channel 8’s Schoen’s Roofing camera.

The video tour posted on the city’s YouTube page showed an inside look at the 16-acre compound.

McGrury explained that the city is dealing with asbestos, debris and other challenges.

He said it will likely take some time before demolition can begin.

“We’ve got some grants to apply for and some more cleanup to do,” he said. “But we are working on it, but it’s going to take us a little while to eat this elephant.”
