SEVERE WEATHER UPDATE- August 9, 2025
SEVERE WEATHER UPDATE: A level 2 SLIGHT risk is now in place for most of southern Nebraska through Saturday night. Main concerns will be winds up to 65-75+ mph, half dollar size hail or greater and an isolated brief spin up tornado possible. Timing is 10:30PM-4AM Sunday.

70+ mph winds are LIKELY in the hatched area. Surrounding areas can expect 50-60 mph winds.
A brief land spout will also be possible through tonight.
Half dollar size hail or greater will be associated with the stronger storms.
Strong storms will move in from Kansas near 10:30-11PM tonight. By 11:30- midnight, expect damaging winds, hail and heavy downpours in Beatrice and southern Lancaster county. The strongest of the storms will move in by 12- 12:15AM. Heavy rainfall and gusty winds will continue in parts of SE Nebraska through 4AM.
High temperatures across southeast Nebraska on Sunday will drop into the upper 70s and lower 80s with a northerly wind. A morning round of storms will be possible, followed by partly sunny skies before storm chances increase again tomorrow evening.
After a small chance of showers and storms on Monday, the rest of the forecast looks to dry out through the middle part of the week. Excellent weather for the first day back to school for all LPS students on Wednesday, with mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 80s. Highs in the 90s return by the end of next week and continue through next weekend. Possible rain and storm chances return next weekend.
