High School Football Preview: Lincoln Southwest looking for bounce-back season

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln Southwest is coming off of back-to-back 3-6 seasons in 2023 and 2024.

“You can see where doing some things right,” said head coach Grant Traynowicz. “We got that foundation that’s being built, now what do we need to do to take us to that next faze? I talked with the guys, one of the things we talk about is team first but everybody on our team has an individual responsibility to make this a reality.”

The Silver Hawks are hoping to find some of that 2022 magic when the team finished the year 8-3.

“We can know that whoever we’re playing against, we have a chance to win,” said senior wide receiver and cornerback Amanu Lesoing. “We played some really good teams in Omaha and I think we have confidence in ourselves that we can play with anyone in Nebraska.”

LSW kicks off its season on Aug. 29 against Lincoln North Star at 7 p.m.

Nate’s four keys:

  • Will need production from new faces after graduating 27 seniors last year
  • The starting quarterback has big shoes to fill after Brockston Teply transferred to Waverly (1,434 passing yards, 12 passing touchdowns last season)
  • Senior Noah Curtis and junior Barrett Hartwig return in the backfield and will need to be a presence for the Silver Hawks to excel on offense
  • How do they handle the first four games of the season? They’re tough. (Lincoln North Star, Lincoln Southeast, Papillion La-Vista, Lincoln East)
