Kearney woman convicted in husband’s shooting death

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A woman was convicted Friday of killing her husband in Kearney last year.

Karen Geisler, 57, pleaded no contest to attempted second-degree murder and use of a firearm to commit a felony.

The first charge was reduced from second-degree murder under a plea deal.

On Oct. 20, Geisler shot her husband, 62-year-old Jimmy Geisler, inside their south Kearney home.

Karen Geisler was outside the home when officers arrived, police said, and was immediately taken into custody.

Her husband was taken to a hospital and died five days later.

Many of the court documents in the case are sealed, so it’s unclear what led up to the shooting.

Geisler is set to be sentenced in Buffalo County District Court on Oct. 24.
