Two workers injured — one seriously — in assault at Nebraska prison
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Officials say two staff members at the Nebraska State Penitentiary were injured Wednesday in an assault by inmates.
Two inmates attacked an employee on the yard, according to the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services.
Multiple staff members jumped in to help, and authorities said one of those workers was also injured.
The department said the employee who was initially attacked was hospitalized with serious injuries, including a concussion, multiple broken bones and cuts to the face.
“Violence toward staff members will not be tolerated,” Corrections Director Rob Jeffreys said in a press release. “Those who choose to perpetrate these acts will be dealt with to the fullest of my authority.”
The department said the findings of the investigation will be turned over to the Lancaster County attorney for possible prosecution.
The inmates will also be subject to internal discipline within the corrections department, like the loss of good time.
