Lincoln business owner grateful TikTok can continue operating in the US
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lincoln business owner is grateful he can continue growing his following on TikTok, helping bring in more customers through his doors.
This comes after President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Thursday allowing TikTok to continue operating in the United States, while also meeting national security requirements.
Vice President JD Vance also said the deal with China ensures “American investors will actually control the algorithm” of TikTok.
With the social media platform not going anywhere for the foreseeable future, it brings hope to creators like barber Khaleefa Muhammad, who credits the app with helping build his online brand.
“TikTok has helped tremendously when it comes to just the elevation of business here, the influx of clients, really all around,” Muhammad said.
His videos feature his work, helping attract new customers.
Some of Muhammad’s clientele are from out of state and decided to check him out after seeing his videos online.
“When things really started to take off, I can’t tell you, it was virtually every day, ‘Yeah, I came to you from TikTok, found you on TikTok,'” he said.
Muhammad also credited TikTok for helping other barbers in his shop.
“When the TikTok ban first started to come about, it was really funny because things were really starting to take off, so it blunted my growth for a second,” he said.
For Muhammad, the proposed TikTok deal is a continuing chance to connect with Nebraskans beyond the barber’s chair.
“The fact that somebody drove that distance, just to sit in my chair, just to get a haircut and have a conversation with me and then come back again from that same distance and do it twice over, it’s a beautiful thing and it’s very humbling,” he said.
