Police investigating apparent murder-suicide near south Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lincoln Police Department is investigating an apparent murder-suicide after finding a couple dead inside their home near south Lincoln.

Around 10:45 a.m. Friday, officers were sent to a welfare check in the area of 14th and Sumner streets.

During an investigation, officers determined there was an urgent need to go inside the home to make sure both occupants were safe.

When they entered, they found a 51-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman on the floor of a bedroom with multiple gunshot wounds.

Their identities are being withheld pending next-of-kin notification, according to LPD.

Based on the injuries and evidence at the scene, LPD is investigating the deaths as a murder-suicide.

There is no threat to the public at this time, LPD said.

The investigation is ongoing.
