LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Police on Monday shared the identity of the victim in a murder-suicide at a home near south Lincoln last week.

When officers entered a home near 14th and Sumner streets on a welfare check on Friday, they found the bodies of Sterling Jordan and Jennifer McCarther, both 51.

“During the investigation officers determined there was an urgent need to enter the home to determine both were safe inside.” Police Chief Michon Morrow said.

“We are seeing an increase in the severity of abuse and domestic violence incidents that we are investigating in our community.” Morrow said.

Police Chief Michon Morrow said McCarther had multiple gunshot wounds, and Jordan had a gunshot wound to his head.

The case is being investigated as a murder-suicide.  Morrow said there is believed to be no public safety threat.

“It is heartbreaking, and at the same time, it is infuriating to know that her life was stolen by a senseless act of violence,” Morrow said.

An investigation is ongoing.  Anyone with information is asked to call police at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
