Pillen made a statement about the opening date while he was in Norfolk, where he signed an executive order to launch the Good Life; Great Careers initiative.

The facility will open just over two months after Pillen offered up the work ethic camp to the Department of Homeland Security.

Since the announcement of the detention center, local leaders said they have made numerous attempts to talk with representatives of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services and Gov. Jim Pillen’s office.
