Man fired gun at troopers from inside Grand Island home, patrol says

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating a shooting involving troopers on Wednesday morning in Grand Island.
At around 6 a.m., investigators with the patrol’s technical crimes unit served a warrant at a home near Pleasant View Drive and East Oklahoma Avenue.
The patrol said the search warrant was in relation to a child pornography investigation.
As investigators tried to serve the search warrant, 43-year-old Justin Jelinek fired a gun from inside the home, according to police.
A trooper shot back, but no one was hit by gunfire, the patrol said.
After Jelinek barricaded himself inside the home, the patrol’s SWAT team was activated.
Investigators gave “repeated commands” for Jelinek to exit the home. About 10 minutes later, Jelinek came out and was taken into custody.
He was lodged in the Hall County Jail, and charges are pending, the patrol said. An investigation is ongoing.
