Beatrice softball head coach Greg Lytle stepping down from program

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — After seven seasons leading the Beatrice Lady Orange softball team, head coach Gary Lytle is stepping down from his coaching position.
Since taking over the program in 2018, Lytle compiled a 196-56 record, boasting a 77.8% winning percentage.
Under his guidance, Beatrice appeared in the state championship game four times and captured a state title in 2024.
“Coach Lytle has left an incredible mark on our program,” Cale Kaiser, Beatrice Activities Director, said in a press release. “He has built a culture rooted in hard work, integrity, and team-first values. His players have not only achieved success on the field but have grown as leaders and young women under his direction.”
Beatrice Public Schools said Lytle was known for his steady leadership and commitment to his players — being a mentor, motivator and role model to countless athletes.
BPS continued, saying he shaped the Lady Orange program into one of the most respected in the state and has inspired pride throughout the Beatrice community.
“The program is in a great spot and I don’t think it will skip a beat,” Lytle said. “I don’t have the right words to express how grateful I am and how much this program means to me. I look forward to continue watching the girls compete.”
This news comes following Beatrice’s loss to Northwest in the state championship game on Monday.
