Lincoln insurance company addresses coverage for tornado damage

“It was kind of scary for awhile because we didn’t know exactly what was going to happen,” Lincoln resident, Steve Oborny said.
Oborny was sitting in his living room Sunday evening when he looked outside and saw how strong the winds were, him and his wife immediately took cover in the basement.
“It wasn’t very long after that, we came up and my wife said the porch is gone,” Oborny said.
The tree damage is pretty severe at Oborny’s property. The spruce they planted when they moved in 38 years ago, the winds twisted the whole top off.
The couple has now done what people are encouraged to do next, call insurance.
“When you call in, please be very descriptive and let them know what you can tell as far as what kind of damages are so the adjusters can then assess what priorities to take,” American Family Insurance, Linde Matthiesen said.
Everyone likes to get things fixed as soon as possible but Matthiesen says try not to race to a contractor, hire them off of referrals.
You should tell your adjuster if you made any updates to your home in the past 3 years.
Adjusters are already around the city taking a look at the damage called in by homeowners.
“The home insurance is probably going to be the majority and they are going to be here within 24 to 48 hours,” Oborny said.
Oborny says over the three decades he has lived in his home, never has he seen so much damage.
“I’m happy that it didn’t take the house, that’s what I am really thankful for,” Oborny said. “We still have the house here and we were able to sleep here last night because a lot of times these storms wipe out houses.”
